In a publishing environment where the question of platform is often pivotal, partnering with an established brand can be just the ticket you need. Our distinguished panelists will share their wealth of experience, guiding us through the labyrinth of licensing and working with brands. Topics will include how to approach brands, navigate marketing campaigns, understand brand guidelines, manage royalties under a license, and much more.

Robert Paris Riger was "an ambassador" at Pimsleur Language (part of S&S), where he consulted in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain. As publisher of B&N's SparkNotes and FlashKids brands, he built a 500-title backlist. He worked at Penguin, and after leaving Book of the Month Club and Doubleday Book & Music Clubs, co-founded Market Partners International. Robert is author of One Frog Can Make a Difference, Kermit’s Guide to Life in the 90’s. His direct clients included Jim Henson Productions, Penguin Putnam, Simon & Schuster,, Grolier, Oxmoor House, Rodale, Rizzoli, Egmont Books, Grand Livre du Mois, Time-Life Books Europe, AOL, Bookscan/Soundscan, RR Donnelley, National Geographic Society, and TV Guide.

Margaret Milnes, director of brand management, product development and licensing strategy at Running Press/Perseus Books, has worked at Disney, Nickelodeon, Harper, Random House and more in a variety of licensing and brand strategy roles over a 20-plus year career in New York. She has helped create bestselling book programs for brands such as The Lion King, Toy Story, Dora the Explorer, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who and collaborated with teams from the BBC, HBO, Cartoon Network, Paramount and more. Branded IP includes Baby Einstein, Best Ink, Fancy Nancy, Biscuit, Frog & Toad, Franklin the Turtle, Little Miss and Mr. Men series, Goodnight Moon and some of her clients include, Oxygen Media, HarperCollins, Hearst Digital, Kids Can Press, Martha Stewart Omnimedia, Random House Penguin.
