Debuting the 2022 Happy Hour line-up is the beautiful boutique publishing house of Monacelli Press. The ABPA board invites you to this members-only event on Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 5:30-6:30pm ET (2:30-3:30 pm PT) with editorial director Alan Rapp, senior editor Carla Sakamoto, and editor Jenny Florence. Now an imprint of Phaidon Press, the world’s premier publisher of the creative arts, Monacelli is known for its provocative, inspiring, essential, and artfully designed books on architecture, visual art, interior design, landscape + gardens, photography, and applied arts. Who You’ll Meet

Alan Rapp is editorial director at Monacelli. He is an editor, book developer, and writer specializing in photography, architecture, and design. His book career began at Chronicle Books, where he developed the photography list and published books by Elinor Carucci, David Maisel, Jona Frank, Jim Marshall, Linda Connor, and Henry Horenstein. Under the Monacelli umbrella, he has collaborated on new works by Elinor Carucci (Midlife) and Jona Frank (Cherry Hill), as well as Cig Harvey’s fourth book, Blue Violet. In addition to contributing to several books, his writing has appeared in The Photobook Review, Modern Painters, and Urban Omnibus, among others.

Carla Sakamoto is a senior editor at Monacelli whose editorial program focuses on art, design, and visual culture. She began her career in magazines at The Condé Nast Publication, then received her MA in modern art history at the Art Institute of Chicago, then moved on to illustrated book publishing with Rizzoli International Publications, Assouline, Acanthus Press, and teNeues. She has also written art criticism for Artwrit.com as well as on art, architecture, design, fashion, food, and lifestyle for Surface, Blackbook, and Bon Appétit magazines.

Jenny Florence is an editor at Monacelli, focusing on illustrated books on design, art, and interiors. She began her career working in museums, an editorial assistant in MoMA’s Department of Architecture & Design and at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, collaborating on catalogues for major exhibitions. As a project editor at Princeton Architectural Press, she produced books on design, art, craft, architecture, and visual culture, including Basquiat Before Basquiat, Chandigarh Revealed: Le Corbusier’s City Today, and Handcrafted Maine. Among her recent publications are Upstate, Objects USA: 2020, and Flower Flash.
