The Book Engineer is a boutique book development consultancy working with publishers, brands, literary agents, and creatives to conceptualize and create commercially appealing books. Leila Sales founded the Book Engineer after more than a decade as an editor at Penguin Random House, where she acquired and edited award-winning and bestselling children's fiction and nonfiction. Additionally, Leila is the author of many critically acclaimed middle-grade and young adult novels. With the Book Engineer, she has combined her professional expertise as both a writer and an editor to assess what the market needs and how to make it. The Book Engineer specializes in developing books and publishing programs for media brands that originate in other formats (toys, TV, social media, etc). Whether it’s plotting a novel, expanding a successful series or property, adapting content between formats or age groups, editing an anthology, or creating a book to meet a cultural moment, the Book Engineer works creatively and collaboratively with clients to package books they will be proud of.
